Jefferson, Thomas (1743-1826) Ship's Passport, Signed, April, 1805, Countersigned by James Madison (1751-1836). Single parchment leaf, engraved vignettes at the top, depicting a ship under sail and a lighthouse and port by E. Savage, the text engraved and fulfilled by hand, signed by Thomas Jefferson as President, sealed at bottom left. Overall fade to ink though Jefferson's signature remains bright. As typical the document bears two horizontal as well as two vertical folds, lower vertical fold passing through the inked "a" in Madison. Wave trimmed top, framed, 14 3/4 x 10 in.

  • Overall fade especially to hand filled ink portions; along with normal creases.
